One of the sub-targets of the project "Strengthening of Belarusian – Latvian Cooperation on Priority Cross-Border Environment Protection Issues" implemented by "Vides projekti" and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to facilitate cooperation for development of a cross-border ecological network and for prevention of nature values. In order to share the expertise and information, to discuss the options of preserving nature values and to negotiate on cooperation for achieving these goals, on 12 and 13 September a meeting "Coordination of Economical and Environmental Interests on Latvian – Belarusian Border" of the involved parties were organized in Daugavpils District. As most advantageous solution, creation of two common specially protected nature territories on basis of already existing protected nature territories was admitted, intensification of information exchange, cooperation for investigation of nature values in the frontier zone and for education of publics was emphasized. It was pointed out that relevant ministries of both involved countries need to develop coordinated definite action plan for creation of the cross-border protected nature territories. Participants declared their opinion in a common resolution at the end of the meeting. Following project activity for intensifying cooperation and for raising the capacity of the environmental system of the Belarus party is sharing the Latvian experience on the issues of waste management. From 22 to 26 October a training – experience exchange visit of the officials of the Belarus Ministry for Nature Resources and Environment Protection will be going on in Latvia.
