Posters Devoted to Climate Change Exhibited in Riga City Council

From 4 July to 13 July most successful works of the open poster contest "Climate Change – World Wide Environmental Problem" can be seen in the building of Riga City Council, Rātslaukums 1 in Riga.

For two weeks in June more than 20 most successful works of the contest were exposed in the trading centre "Spice", still the organizers of the poster contest believe, that high grade contest works deserve demonstrating them to even wider range of publics, therefore in cooperation with the Environment Committee of Riga City Council they have arranged another exhibition of the open contest posters.

Ministry of Environment of Latvia and the British Embassy in Riga in cooperation with the "Vides projekti" Ltd and with the Arts Education centre "Three Colours" organized an open poster contest "Climate Change – World Wide Environmental Problem” in the spring of 2007 to attract public attention to the reasons and consequences of the climate change, as well as to call for environment protection and for reduction of the activities contributing to the climate change.
More than 70 works were submitted for the contest, created by professional artists, students and school children. The works were evaluated and the winners were established by the jury committee, enclosing Mr. Raimonds Vējonis, the Minister for Environment, Mr. Ian Bond, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Mrs. Ramona Umblija, the art historian, Mr.Laimonis Šēnbergs, the artist and Mrs. Iveta Lāce, director of the trading centre "Spice".

Exhibition in Riga City Council will show the works of all winners of the open poster contest "Climate Change – World Wide Environmental Problem":
Poster by the creative association "Brainchild" (Jānis Cirsis, Dmitrijs Frolovs, Matīss Zvaigzne un Aivars Baranovs) "Gaiziņš – 25" (1st place, Ministry of Environment award – 1000 Ls);
Poster of Karīna Stefanišina (Liepāja Art School, 17 years) "World Cries!" ( 1st place in the group of higher and art schools, British Embassy award – trip to the UK for 2 persons, to the design exhibition "100% design" taking place in London in September 2007);
"Lost Elements" by Inese Vēriņa, "Winter Olympics 2025" by Rolands Geslers and "Negāzē, kur dzīvo" by Māris Jurjāns (consolation prizes);
Poster by Indra Merca "Reminiscences of Polar Bear" (special award of the Minister for Environment) and "3 Thoughts about Nature" by Māris Subačs (award by the director of the trading centre "Spice").

During the first exhibition the public sympathy award was nominated by the customers of the trading centre "Spice"– Ls 50 award went to Inese Vēriņa for the poster "Lost Elements".
