Poster Contest "Climate Change – Global Environmental Problem" Announced

The Ministry of Environment of Latvia and the British Embassy in Riga in cooperation with the state owned enterprise "Vides projekti" Ltd and with the Arts Education centre "III krāsas" ("Three Colours") announces an open poster contest "Climate Change – Global Environmental Problem".

The aim of the project is to draw attention of the Latvian people towards the problems of the global climate change, to raise awareness of the society on importance of this issue and to develop deeper understanding of it.

Professional artists are invited to take part in the contest – the experienced ones and beginners, as well as the students of art schools and institutions of higher education.

The task of a participant is to make a poster on a 90x60cm format page, where within the context of the climate change problematics in an unexpected (perhaps even in a shocking) manner people are appealed to alter their attitude and actions towards the subject.
The key criteria for evaluation of the works are: originality, artistic value, agitating content and design quality of a poster.

The term for submitting the works is 11 May 2007 (including). Contest applications shall be submitted in the premises of the state owned enterprise "Vides projekti" Ltd, 17 Pils Street, Riga (on working days from 9.00 to 17.00 hours)

The posters will be evaluated by a professional jury committee, comprising artists and art historians, delegates from the Ministry of Environment of Latvia, from the British Embassy in Riga and from other involved organizations.
The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Latvia will award the winner with a money prize of 1000 lats.
The British Embassy in Riga will award the best (the most shocking) work of a Latvian art school or academy student (aged 15-25) with a journey for two persons to the UK to the design exhibition "100% design" taking place in London in September 2007.
The jury committee is entitled to award also the incentive awards (the total awards fund – 500 lats).

The most successive works of the participants will be demonstrated on a poster exhibition in the trading centre "SPICE" in May.
