Exhibition "Don’t Burn, Save Lives!" Opened in the Natural History Museum

In the Latvian Natural History Museum within the display "Man and Environment" exhibition is opened devoted to the problems of burning the last year’s grass, named "Don’t Burn, Save Lives!". The exhibition demonstrates posters related to grass fires made by schoolchildren and artists, plants and animals suffering from this human violence and information on harmful impact of grass burning to the nature.

Exhibition "Don’t Burn, Save Lives!" will be open in the Latvian Natural History Museum till 29 April.

Works of the open poster contest of 2006 "NO to grass burning!" , where professional Latvian artists, advertising professionals, academy students and other interested persons participated, are displayed on the exhibition, also the best works of the schoolchildren competition. Materials on plants and animals that can be destroyed by fire are made by the museum specialists and supplement the exhibition.

The artist group "Mazā Ģilde" took part in the opening of the exhibition showing a part of the performance "Why Wept the Stork?". It is intended to show this performance and the posters in 64 schools in Latvia within the framework of the campaign "NO to grass burning!".

Setting on fire the last year’s grass has become a big disaster, which because of human negligence and irresponsibility destroys many lives. Therefore the exhibition aims to remind people, that just one burning safety match thrown on ground may kill many beings.

The open poster contest, works from which can be seen on the exhibition, was organized by the state owned enterprise "Vides projekti" Ltd in cooperation with the implementers of the projects "Public Mirrors" and "Urna 2" (the author of the conception and the manager – art historian Mrs. Ramona Umblija) and with the Ministry of Environment and the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund. The poster contest for schoolchildren is supported also by the Ministry of Interior and the magazine "Spicīte".
The exhibition can be visited with a museum entrance ticket.
