On 3 October an extensive exhibition of the Latvian poster art was opened in the exhibition hall "Arsenāls". The exposition consists of two parts: the first one – "Public mirrors", recalls the examples of the Latvian poster art during the period of 130 years, the other one – URNA 2, is organized as a contest exhibition. valuable, society focused posters. All professional artists were invited to take part in it – the experienced ones and beginners or academy pre-graduates – everybody believing that poster is a speciall artistic manner for delivering opinions to the society.
Together with the works dedicated to the mounting problem of forest pollution, inititated by the stock company "Latvian State Forests" and with the free theme works, inititated by the Ministry of Culture, also posters on theme "Danger of the Old Grass Burning", suggested by the "Vides projekti" were offered . After evaluation by a professional hanging committee only eleven authors with 17 more interesting works, calling to stop grass burning, were nominated for the final, that is for possibility to demonstrate their works in the exhibition.
Opening the exhibition the winners were named and awarded. Among the contestants on the theme "Danger of the Old Grass Burning" the first prize – 1000 lats – went to Roberts Vaitkus for the work named "Don’t waste your time" ("Netērē laiku").
The consolation prizes of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Latvia was granted to Egils Vītols for the work "Your grass, your choice I" ("Tava kūla, tava izvēle I"), Lauris Treijs for the work "Tell your folks not to burn me down" ("Pasaki savējiem, lai nesadedzina mani" and Indra Merca for the work "Bon Appetit" ("Labu apetīti"). The prizes and the opportunity to show their works on the exhibition may become a good motivation for the new artists to try their skills also in future, generating social, political and cultural posters.
The author of the idea and the implementer of the retrospective poster exhibition "Public Mirrors", where pieces from the funds of the Latvian National Art Museum, the Latvian National Library and the Latvian Artists’ Union Museum were displayed, is Mrs.Ramona Umblija, the art historian.

The exposition is open in the exhibition hall "Arsenāls" till 19 November.
