The contests organized jointly by the state enterprise "Vides projekti" SIA and media under the project "Preparation and implementation of the LEPF 10th anniversary contests for school students" are coming to the end.
On 21 September, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Latvian Environment Protection Fund, the children's magazine "Zīlīte" invited its most loyal and cooperative readers to the meeting in Ķemeri National Park. 9 children from various parts of Latvia – Daugavpils, Rēzekne, Liepāja, Jēkabpils and Riga, who during this and previous years have sent letters to the editor, reflecting their thoughts and observations in nature, or who have been bright participants and winners of the contests took part in the event One of the ways how the Latvian Environment Protection Fund facilitates the environmental education and teaching of the young generation is financial support to the only children’s magazine on nature theme – "Zīlīte". By cooperating succesfully with its readers, receiving and answering their questions, publishing stories on life of animals and plants, printing colourful photos and pictures of nature, organizing contests for observations and inventiveness, the edition teaches its readers to be watchful and win the honourable "Hawkeye" title of a nature watcher.
The lesson of the Ķemeri National Park Nature School about mire and sulphurous springs in it, presented by Mrs.Kristīne Vuškāne, experienced manager of biology camps, taught children to see and explore in nature things that in school are studied only from books. The warm and sunny day provided opportunity to greet the most active nature watchers on site – near the autumnal Ķemeri Mire. Mr.Raimonds Vējonis, the Minister for Environment, Mr.Jānis Rudzītis, the deputy director of the Administration of the Latvian Environment Protection Fund and Mr.Māris Rungulis, the editor of "Zīlīte" and one of the brightest latvian writers for youth and children, presented souvenirs and the anniversary edition of the Environmental Protection Fund – book "Ar sirdi un prātu" ("With Heart and Mind"), which will advance knowledge of children on issues of environment protection.
There will also be oportunity to see the event on Latvian television , when operational group of the TV series "Dabas grāmata" ("The Book of Nature") will prepare the material shot in Ķemeri.
