On April 12 in Liepaja information seminar, organised in frame of the project „ The Preparation of The Liepaja Karosta Channel Remediation Project” will take place.
Seminar is organised in cooperation between administration of Liepajas Special economical zone and State owned enterprise „Environmental Projects”. During the seminar results of the project and future plans for Karaosta channel development will be presented.
Project is implemented by state owned enterprise „Environmental Projects” and is contracted by Ministry of Environment. Project was started in May 2005 and main aim of the project was to prepare documentation for European Cohesion fund in order to get finances for recultivation of Liepajas Karaosta channel.
Project consisted of several parts: analysis of documents and legislation, analysis of current situation, additional researches, choosing the alternatives for decontamination, financial analysis, preparation of documentation for European Cohesion fund and development of tender dossier.

Liepajas Karaostas channel is one of the most polluted military territories in Liepaja. Concerned territory of the projects is 780 00 square meters. The mains pollution is composed from oil and metals. Feasibility study developed by state owned enterprise “Environmental Projects” foresees that those sediments will be moved to Eastern part of the channel where they will be kept behind special groovewall.
