The project was intented to be in the form of eight series in the television program „Environmental Facts” where journalist Uģis Olte explores which forms of environment-friendly energy are used in Latvia. Uģis Olte along with viewers get to know heating with wood remains and straw (as opposed gas and coal), wind generated energy, solar batteries un collectors, biogas abstracted from waste right here in Šķēde, Latvia, feat pump which helps to gather warmth from bowels of the Earth, biofuel, and small hydropower stations. Another young journalist – Gustavs Terzens has researched how to save energy and hence also save money. The Series are combined in one DVD; materials on the use of alternative forms of energy in Latvia will also be published in the form of a brochure. The DVD and the brochure “A-Energy” will be handed over to teachers of geography and physics during a specially organized seminar in November. Production of all these materials has taken place as a result of cooperation between the Ministry of the Environment and the UN Development Program. A pocket sized brochure entitled “Climate change …… in my pocket” was also created in a joint effort, which will be made available for general public for the first time today.
